We sat down with Keidi Janz to discuss her journey to self-love and finding her own voice which is something that most of us struggle with at some point in our lives. Keidi is a self love advisor and keynote speaker having spoken at multiple female centred events covering topics such as body love,self-care, vulnerability, as well as having spoken at International Women’s Day events. With a following of 8,335 people on Instagram, Keidi has devoted her platform to speaking up about her struggles, sharing advice and tips with her followers. Her vision is to build a community that encourages others to live and breathe their truth; or as she describes “A place where we can share our beautifully imperfect lives while at the same time fully celebrating the beautifully curated moments.”

It is during our darkest moments that we must take action and shift our focus into identifying what we are really missing in our lives. Keidi’s journey to self love began when she was faced with a physical condition that forced her to evaluate if she was living the life she truly wanted to live. It was then that she decided to take control of her own happiness and well being ” The most challenging part of this journey is unlearning the conditioning and beliefs we have adopted from our upbringing.” Janz tells Stowic.

A path that is harsh, messy and critical but also wonderful, loving and ultimately a gateway to success. Keidi’s journey to self-love was not easy and her view of herself has changed her perspective towards life – saying,  “You can be whoever you want to be. You can totally change and define yourself by where you are going and who you are becoming. You do not owe your past to anyone, and you can change your mind on who you want to be right at this moment. The journey to fully loving yourself seems difficult but it is necessary and rewarding,” She now spends her time helping others on their journey to self love, body positivity and identifying true power through having a voice of your own. This can be seen on her Instagram profile as she shares tips, quotes that resonate with her audience, personal advice and ways to manifest what you want in life which she has done by creating a vision board containing places and experiences she wants to have as seen below.

“I feel it is easy to get distracted by the perfectly curated lives and instagram feeds, sure us comparing our lives to others is not a necessarily new concept but I think it is so more in our face now that it has become more evident. By focusing in on our own needs and only measuring if our actions and outcomes are bringing us closer to our authentic selves is what brings us closer to fully loving ourselves. This is an individual journey but the work we put in living our truth only helps us to show up as the best versions to our family, friends and our society as a whole.”

Many of us go through life afraid to mess up and afraid of the opinions and judgement of those surrounding us so we choose not to speak up because it’s comfortable. Fear is what keeps us from realizing our true potential.  Janz had discovered that the best way to really connect and empathise with others is to open up about your own vulnerabilities which is what she has done through her public speaking. “I’ve actually always enjoyed public speaking and always volunteered to host school events since middle school. In the past year when I started speaking on my truth and topics that were important to me like self love, body love and women empowerment things got real! I could notice the quivering in my voice – that was my cue that these were the words my heart wants to be speaking. What I love the most about it is that it allows me to connect with people in person. My goal is to always share vulnerability as a way to connect us to each other that we are all going through the same things.” Janz tells Stowic. Our voices are powerful weapons that we often take for granted and use for the worst instead of uplifting others for the better. They have the power to not only bring people together, but spark conversation to spread further awareness on important and less popular topics which is exactly what Keidi has done.

But we wanted to go deeper and we were curious to find out who keidi was in her younger years before she began her journey. Janz describes high school as an interesting period in her life saying, ” I always felt like I was older than I was – as a result a lot of my friends were older and outside of my high school. I also think this was a crucial time in my life in shaping my own views and values. So I guess it’s easier to say I felt like my growth happened outside of high school and I was just trying to get through it as quickly as I could” After high school Keidi began taking photographs  at the ripe age of 19 which soon enough transformed into a Commercial photography business based in Toronto with her loving partner, Tom. Their work can be seen at https://www.tomandkeidi.com/

Photography is just the beginning for Janz as she has many interests and things she wants to do in life, “I have a whole list of about 1000 things to do,  from learning to swim to taking cooking classes in Italy “Under the Tuscan Sun” situation. But if there is anything I want to do continuously throughout my life it’s to be and live in the most authentic version of myself.”. To Janz, ensuring self care means scheduling blocks of time dedicated to yourself whether it be waking up earlier for alone time in the morning with your thoughts or taking yourself out on a date. Self love is the first step to success and self empowerment.
